Forged & Fire

I find the most exiting part of jewelry metals to be the process of refinement. There is nothing quite like the gratification that results from taking a raw material, heating, bending, hammering, joining, all to adorn the body and meet the eye as an ode to earth from which we came.

a thing silver ring band placed a quarter of the way over the same sized brass ring band. To the right is a thicker ring band standing on edge. The three rings sit on a sage green book cover that reads as fabric.

Silver & Brass

There is a simple joy sparked by a ring band in silver or brass. Stackable or worn on their own, brushed or polished, hammered or smooth, not a quite a statement but a touch of the earth formed to fit just right.

“Need to Know That You’re Mine” (2018)

This enamel interpretation of a belt buckle highlights the ever changing standards of success and beauty. It serves as a physical measurement belt to obtain measurements of the body and the buckle itself, in units of “likes”, as commentary on the contemporary value attributed to social media presence.

“Louis Becomes a Bratz Doll” (2018)

This enamel tryptic captures a social media post by @foundbylouis which chronicles the satirical journey of getting plastic surgery procedures to look more like a Bratz Doll. Highlighting changing beauty standards through campy and crudely photoshopped self portraits, Louis morphs his face alongside a fictitious narrative about the concern of his friends and family as he seeks happiness through physical altercation.
